Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is a highly effective, evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents who have experienced trauma.

TF-CBT helps young people and their caregivers process painful experiences, develop healthy coping skills, and restore a sense of safety and emotional balance.

Recommended by national mental health organizations, TF-CBT is a structured, short-term therapy that brings lasting change.

Who Is TF-CBT For?

TF-CBT is designed for children and teens (ages 3–18) who have experienced:

  • Abuse (physical, emotional, or sexual)
  • Domestic or community violence
  • Grief and loss
  • Traumatic medical experiences
  • Neglect or abandonment
  • Natural disasters or accidents
  • Traumatic separation or foster care transitions

 Proven by Research:

  • Supported by over 25 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) worldwide
  • Endorsed by top organizations like the APA, SAMHSA, and NICE
  • Shown to reduce PTSD symptoms in children across different cultures and trauma types.

TF‑CBT is structured and goal-oriented. Children learn to:

  • Understand and express their feelings
  • Build healthy coping skills
  • Gradually talk through their trauma memories (with support)
  • Reframe unhelpful thoughts
  • Strengthen family connection and safety

It also supports parents and caregivers, helping them play an active role in the child’s recovery.
